I'm getting ready to make my first hoop with removable spines, so I'm trying to find speednuts... The bolts I use are 3/8, and can't find speednuts big enough! I tried Lowes (they have speednuts, but none that big), Home Depot (they don't carry speednuts) Autozone (again, no speednuts), and a few places online. Do speednuts of this size even exist, or am I just going to have to use smaller bolts? What size bolts do you guys normally use? I'm ok with using thinner bolts, but it seems like the thinner ones don't get longer than about 6 inches, (which is about 3 inches once the wick is on and the bolt is going through the hoop) and I'm afraid to have the fire that close to the hoop... both for my comfort and so the tape/ hoop doesn't melt.
Suggestions??

Re: Help finding larger speed nuts?
Wed, July 16, 2008 - 5:58 AMI would try a "smaller" hardware store. When I built my fire hoop, I would up having to get a lot of the pieces at a Sears Hardware. They seem to have a much more comprehensive selection of actual hardware than a lot of the bigger stores. Ace Hardware might also be a good place to check.

Thu, July 17, 2008 - 5:25 AMThanks for the advice, Melissa! I ended up just going back to Lowes and returning the large bolts and getting 5/16th ones.
Tedward,
Speednuts are a piece of hardward that allow you to have removable spines on a fire hoop... they are kind of shaped like a small money clip with a threaded hole through the center. -
