Hiya, I might have a fire hoop performance coming up possibly on Sunday and I have lovely long hair. What can I do with it to still look lady like but not loose it?
does anyone know of fire proof wigs?

thanks

    Hi Charlotte,

I have Very Long Hair, and for fire hooping, I put mine into bunches (either at the back of your head or high up is cute) and then wrap them into little buns. You could add small accessories to jazz it up.

Can't help you with fire proof wigs - not sure they exist as the synthetic stuff that wigs are made from is probably quite flammable.

    Hope that helps though,
    Kitty

Hmmm I have never come across fire proof wigs most wigs will go up pretty quick. Though I suppose a real hair one would not flame up as much as a synthetic one.

When I spin I usually do my hair in some kind of twirly up do with lots of Bobbie pins. Then if there are any sticky out bits I usually spray a little water on them to keep them down.

One interesting thing to note is that %100 woollen Dred falls would not be very flammable at all and could conceivable be a good way to protect your hair though you would want to think about the length of them and how that could impinge your movement. Also you would have to be sure that they were %100 wool,

        Hi Charlotte,

Great news about Sunday. I hope it all goes really well and you have lots of fun!

I usually wear my hair in a bun with a few flowers to decorate it or I wear a short synthetic wig to protect my hair when performing with fire. Although you can definitely still burn a wig, brief contact with the flame will singe and melt the wig but it should not go up in flames. I’ve worn longer hair falls in the past too but feel they get in the way.

Make sure you consider the clothing you are wearing too. Fake fur leg warmers and a polyester tutu would not be a good idea! Tight fitting natural fibre clothing is the safest to do fire in (cotton, leather and wool are all good examples). With anything synthetic, you run the risk of it melting and bonding to whatever it’s covering. You can also treat costumes with fire retardant, but not even this is 100% flame proof.

I’d recommend having a play with hair done and full costume on before the gig (first with an unlit and then a lit hoop), to make sure you feel safe and happy with everything. Make sure you do this with someone else near incase you need help in anyway!

Good luck! I’m sure you’ll be great. Let us know how it all goes x
