Focus on one point somewhere ;)

I find i also get quite dizzy when fire or led hooping.

My theory is that because the fire is so bright and it is dark it can be difficult to see past the fire and spot reference points.
Not sure exactly how to fix this but i have found that hooping at dusk rather than when it is totally dark out will help a lot.

I read this thread before my first time, wow you guys weren't kidding! during the day I didn't get dizzy at all. lighting up on a really dark night I couldn't tell up from down. I think I'll try spotting my hand, see if it helps.

forkawaza and blueberry are both right. the trick is to try to focus on one point, which can be hard given you are in the dark and surrounded by bright spinning light! the key is practice, experience and figuring out what trick works for you! this usually works for me: designate one position as the "front" and one as "back," then i always know where i am. if there is a group of people, and i get dizzy, i'll hoop up to someone and give 'em a little close up isolation while i get my bearings. audience participation and undizzy-fying myself! 2 birds with one stone :)

you could also be getting dizzy in response to breathing the fumes of the fuel... I find it is pretty intense with fire hoops, so many wicks, a lot of smoke. I dont know how you could check or avoid this, but it is worth considering. Some people get quite sick from the exposure to the fuels burnt.
        good luck!

I have never fire hooped, but I spin fire poi. I get sick every time I go to PDF, Wildfire, or a PEX party where I am surrounded by lots of fire spinning. Does anyone know what to do for this besides showing up in a gas mask?

I have the same problem. Actually it is alot worse whey i use my fire hoop compared to my poi because all of the fumes go up straight towards your face.

I go alright if is just one set for a performance or some thing but if I'm just mucking around i usually wear a bandanna over my mouth and that seems to really help.

What has helped me is working on breathing techniques. When the hoop is on my chest, neck or directly in front of my face, I hold my breath. When I lift it off or take it to my hip or knees... I regulate my breathing and get fresh oxygen in. Yoga or other forms of regular breath control practice helps me with this.

I do notice, however, I get much more dizzy when I spin in the grass or uneven ground. On concrete.. I generally never have a problem.
