i did't use threaded posts to make my hoop but rather carriage bolts, however i had the same issue with metal on the inside of the hoop. I put that thick foam wall mounting tape on the inside over the metal and then just taped my hoop with vinyl, gaffer's and sparkle tape. There is a bump over the area where the bolt is (so 5 spots total) however i don't even notice it when i'm hooping when i'm hooping and never have gotten bruises. just thought i'd put in my two cents and hopefully help someone out!

I'm looking at making my first fire hoop and have been considering a variety of ways to attach a threaded insert (probably a t-nut) to the hoop. I've read that some t-nuts are attached on the side of the hoop next to your body, poking the nut into the tube and leaving the T part on the outside against your body. A hole is then drilled on the outside of the hoop to stick a spoke through. This seems as though it might become uncomfortable while hooping though, since the metal is on the inside of the hoop against your body. Another option I had read about was slitting the hoop open along the inside and attaching the T part of the insert to the inner wall with the nut part sticking out away from your body. However, the instructions I was reading were unclear as to how to patch up your hoop again once you have slit it all the way around on the inside. How did you manage to affix your threaded inserts to the hoop?

Even if their threaded they aren't safe. They make metal hardware, I think their called T-nuts. They come in all sizes and threading. Also, I prefer psi 140-60 as it holds it tension and shape even if the hoop gets warm. Congrates on experimenting and stuff, just be safe!

I have been trying to figure out how to make a fire hoop with flexible spokes that won't break when they hit the ground. They are probably going to end up being made of metal cable, but it is hard to find cable that isn't so floppy that it is a safety hazard. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks! -Josie

The threaded spokes are being screwed into threaded inserts.

Caitlin, I think the concern is that the [metal] threaded spokes are being screwed into the plastic hoop directly, with no metal receiver. Repeated screwing and unscrewing could wear out the plastic and cause sudden wick loss.

Hey There, Are your spokes threaded?? I ask because if you are repeatedly screwing in spokes into just plastic, it may wear and you could end up tossing a spoke (never fun). You may want to keep your eye on it. Other then that...have fun!

Success!!!! I just made a new lightweight fire hoop using parts from my old Spinsterz fire hoop. I used 100 psi tubing cut to a 34 in diameter, and used a drill (27/64th's bit..weird size I know) to drill 5 holes around it. I then unscrewed the threaded inserts from my Spinsterz hoop and screwed them into my new hoop....voila, new fire hoop. I also used the same spokes from my Spinsterz hoop. I'm relly stoked b/c I've been wanting a smaller, lighter fire hoop but am unemployed at the moment and could not afford a new one. First burn is tonight....Merry Christmas!
