White gas, kerosene, lamp oil etc.... where do you buy your fuel and how much are you paying for it?
(i'm still really new to fire hooping and just want to get an idea for what's 'normal' out there)

Re: Best prices on fuel...
Fri, July 17, 2009 - 1:10 PMTrue, though I haven't been able to find white gas in Wal-Marts in or around Philadelphia. K-Mart however, did carry it until the one near me closed... they also had the best deals on ultra pure lamp oil.. -

Re: Best prices on fuel...
Fri, July 17, 2009 - 1:08 PMREI has good prices on gallons of white gas. They stock Colemans (I think it was about $9) and a generic brand (cheaper - around $6 - but I haven't tried it)
I don't know if they have REI out in CA or not... -

Sun, July 26, 2009 - 9:01 AMHeading to wal-mart last night for my first fuel buying. Only thing they had was "camp fuel" by coleman. Is this useable?
Thanks. -

Re: Best prices on fuel...
Tue, July 28, 2009 - 6:16 AMHey Tedward thanks for the link!
So I bought the gallon jug of "Camp Fuel" at Walmart for just shy of $9. It's funny though, last week when I first lit my new fire hoop I did dip the wicks in white gas. Last night when I used this camp fuel, the flame seemed much more intense and brighter? Not sure why this would be. Did I let the wicks saturate too much possiably?
hee, hee thank you Moonflash for the warm wishes. Performing is a way off though. I've been hooping for over two years, and learning fire hooping is a whole new rhythm. Excited to find my groove with it though :) -

Re: Best prices on fuel...
Thu, July 30, 2009 - 1:15 AMi've still had less than a dozen burns, but i definitely prefer white gas at this point (though i'm super interested in biofuel options). i've found it consistently for $9-$10/gallon. from what i've read here, that seems to be the going rate.

Re: Best prices on fuel...
Sun, October 25, 2009 - 3:21 PMI've found the best way to light is to use ultra pure oil and spritz with white gas. White gas provides a quick light, but has such a strong vapor it is definitely not the safest to use, until after it burns off a bit. Vapors can travel and settle in the ground around the dipping station and easily ignite. Some prefer to use 50/50--white gas/lamp oil... Ultra pure burns cleaner than tiki torch oil, also--and provides for a brighter flame! I used Paraffin to burn for the first time at my performance last night and spritzed with white gas--it burned brightly, but maybe not as long as the ultra pure...
Play around and find what works for you!

Re: Best prices on fuel...
Sun, October 25, 2009 - 3:41 PMThere are variances between charcoal lighter fluid, various camp fuels and other naptha products. But, yes, it's possible that your wicks need a few seconds to get going, or that they were a little wet the first time, or that you had a different type of fuel, or whatever.
