I agree that you should do what makes you comfortable - but I just wanted to chime in and let you know that I fire hoop with my furry leg warmers all the time, and I've never had an issue. I leg hoop every time I light up and I do a lot of off-body moves, if that eases your mind at all. I also bring a spray bottle and mist my clothes with water (especially if/when I'm wearing fur or fabrics that are questionable).

i only did it once, and it was short pile fur. something really shaggy would make me more nervous. but like tedward said what with the direction of the wicks. and mostly it just tends to fall to the ground around me which is easy to hop out or pick up and start again. my fire hoop is really heavy so i tend to stay on body with it more. i'd do it again, but always consciuos it

Definitely don't do anything which makes you nervous - fire is dangerous, and if you focus on getting polyester fur melted into your legs it will probably happen.

Have you considered making a similar style of leggings/leg warmers/boot covers out of something flame-retardant or at least less flammable? It wouldn't look quite the same as the fur, but you could probably make something which looks really interesting and unique and won't put you in any danger. Heavy wool, hemp, cotton denim, linen, etc. are all things which come in fun prints and patterns and don't catch on fire so easily. Steer clear of anything which is ragged or has loose threads or tassels hanging.

Tedward is right about fuzzy-boot meltage not being an issue for most hoopers, but - if you hoop on your knees or feet at all, that really brings up the potential accident factor. Also, even if you happened to be strictly a waist hooper, drops happen... Other people can hit you with their wicks... Personally I'm very anti-synthetic-fabrics when it comes to anything having to do with fire. My two cents, hope it helps.

If it makes you uneasy, don't do it. Those feelings will contribute to something actually going wrong.

Yes, the fuzzy stuff is one of the best wicks available. Yes, typically synthetic fuzz turns into "napalm" and self propagates the burn, after the original fuel is gone. However, most hoopers (specifically) don't usually have a problem with the fuzzies because their wicks are always pointing away from them and the flame is several inches away at worst. This equation changes dramatically when you start doing outside maneuvers, isolations, and leap-throughs.

I was wondering if anybody had experience in fire hooping with fuzzy kickers on. My friend does it all the time and it scares the crap out of me. We have a performance tonight and I want to wear mine to match hers but I'm just really uneasy about the idea. PLEASE I need your thoughts ASAP!! Thanks!
