Re: FINDING THE RIGHT FIRE HOOP! HELP!
Mon, October 12, 2009 - 4:32 PMI have a Cosmic Fire hoop and I LOVE it! =)
Haven't used many others except ones that I've made, so I don't think I'm qualified to say if its the 'best', but its nice and lightweight and the flexible spines are great!
Collapsible fire hoops... I'm gonna have to go with probably bad idea on that front... just too much that can go wrong there! In any fire art you should minimize the chances of your flaming equipment coming apart and flying into the crowd.
I love removable wicks, I put them on all the hoops I make myself... they are a good option for making the hoop a bit smaller (and therefore more transportable) without going with a collapsible one.
Good luck! =) -

Re: FINDING THE RIGHT FIRE HOOP! HELP!
Mon, October 12, 2009 - 7:41 PMI've got the Featherlight... the wicks aren't removable, but they are super flexible, so you can still easily fit them into your car and whatnot for travel.

Re: FINDING THE RIGHT FIRE HOOP! HELP!
Tue, October 13, 2009 - 1:06 AMBoth Me and my Grrls have Cosmic Fire - we had them shipped all the way to the UK, and we love love love them! They are so light and well balanced, and they travel well as the spines are flexible enough to tape down to the hoop. They seem very durable (Mine gets thrown and dropped alot when practicing!), and are great for tosses and all kinds of off body work without becoming uncomfortably heavy on your arm.
I've also played with a Spinsterz fire hoop and found it too heavy and unwieldy, and I'm not ones of these hoopers who uses a teeny tiny lightweight hoop - I use an average size and weight proportionate to me, but it still felt like it was pulling me around.
My Cosmic Fire hoop is a featherlight 38" and I love it sooo much - highly recommnended! -

Re: FINDING THE RIGHT FIRE HOOP! HELP!
Tue, October 13, 2009 - 8:38 PMI HAVE to have a collapsible hoop with removeable spines for traveling.
so I went with spinsterz
it's very heavy and sooooo durable.
if I wasn't as strong as I am, couldn't do it.
so I can easily do throws and off the body tricks,
I've been looking into Cosmic hoops though for local performances where travelling with small packages isn't a problem so let me know how it works for you!

Re: FINDING THE RIGHT FIRE HOOP! HELP!
Tue, October 13, 2009 - 11:38 PMDoes anyone not make collapsible hoops now?
Either collapsible or removable is a MUST!. Both is better.
But if you're planning on paying over $100 you definitely should be getting a good custom tape job with that. -

Re: FINDING THE RIGHT FIRE HOOP! HELP!
Wed, October 14, 2009 - 10:35 AMHm, I think i might just go all out and pay the extra money for a collapsible. How heavy is Spinsterz? Also, anybody know about the quality of Trick Concept's collapsible. thanks for the feedback everyone! -

Re: FINDING THE RIGHT FIRE HOOP! HELP!
Wed, October 14, 2009 - 5:49 PMI love my cosmic fire one. It is the lightest and they make even lighter ones now. The spines are bendy and it is not a huge hoop. -

Re: FINDING THE RIGHT FIRE HOOP! HELP!
Thu, October 15, 2009 - 7:02 AMmy current firehoop (the beast) is a collapsible by the spinsterz, and it's super heavy! but people at our jam in rochester seem to like it if they like a heavy normal hoop. i didn't do enough research when i ordered it. "i'm going to wildifre! I need a firehoop ASAP!" so i looked on tribe briefly, ordered a brand that was reccomended a bunch without looking into it further. big mistake. if you like a heavy hoop/rely on that, you may like the spinsterz hoop. it's too heavy for me, but it's a really well made tool. the fact that it's collapsible doesn't mean it going to fall apart. the spines screw in and out so before each burn you want to give them a little tightening, but they're on pretty long screws/in there good! the beast is heavy, but a well made tool
as for me! that hoop was a mistake. i was already using a much lighter/smaller regular hoop and i should have done more research. but any day now my magic firehoop pro from cosmic firedance will arrive!!! so excited! can't wait to actually be able to firehoop. the size and weight of that spinsterz hoop really limited me. i really rocked out with the beast one night and my tennis elbow (hoopers elbow/aka tendonitis) was messed up for weeks. too heavy for me!
now as far as collapsibility... i thought that was a really important feature that i really needed, but i think it's only an issue with the rigid spines that stick out straight, if the spines aren't removeable. i remove the spines from my spinsterz hoop for travel, but i haven't actually collapsed the hoop itself ever.
i was concerned about the cosmic fire dance hoop not being collapsible. i had also looked at hoopdrum's firehoop also (similar design to cosmic fire dance) but after emailing shakti sunfire and jewels about their hoops, i was no longer worried about the un-collapsibleness. the flexible cable spines are easy for car travel, and as far as flying... i'd say that the featherlight and magic firehoop pros are arguably the most popular firehoops on the market right now. people are flying with them all the time with their checked hoops! either shakti or jewels reccomended that the wicks are just covered and the spines are wrapped down to the hoop. i plan on travelling with my magic firehoop pro, and i have no worries about it not being collapsible -

Re: FINDING THE RIGHT FIRE HOOP! HELP!
Fri, October 23, 2009 - 2:20 PMI'm shopping around for my first fire hoop also. So if I'm used to hooping with a 40in 160 psi regular hoop, how would either the Cosmic Fire or the Spinterz fire hoop feel compared to that? -
-
Re: FINDING THE RIGHT FIRE HOOP! HELP!
Mon, October 26, 2009 - 8:56 AMcosmic fire's hoop would be two light for you then!!
the spinsterz hoop would be more apprpriate compared to your regular hoop. but hoopdrum will mske a 160 psi firehoop also -

Re: FINDING THE RIGHT FIRE HOOP! HELP!
Wed, November 4, 2009 - 10:16 AMI wanted to put in my two cents.
TC and The Spinsterz hoops are different, as Scorch said above. Same spines, different design.
My "Super Light" , 6 spine, collapsible 3 section fire hoop with 6.5" spines weighs in at 2.1 pounds. I am wondering if the people that said that it was too heavy ordered a "Normal" weight hoop, instead of the "Super Light"?
So far this is the lightest I can get my hoop while keeping it collapsible and featuring removable spines.
Cosmic Fire and Hoopdrum can make lighter hoops because they are using only 5 wicks as apposed to 6 and they are not collapsible and the spines do not come out. Not saying this is a bad thing at all, just explaining why their hoops are lighter than most.
So this brings up a pretty big question, if lightness is a big factor in choosing a fire hoop. How big of a factor do remove-able spines and collapsability play?
Would you rather have a collapsible hoop with remove-able spines and sacrifice a few ounces of weight? or is it more important to have the hoop be as light as possible? Transportation ease over weight?
Watcha think?

Re: FINDING THE RIGHT FIRE HOOP! HELP!
Wed, November 4, 2009 - 11:16 AMp.s. removable spines = heavy. Our cable spines (hoopdrum firehoops) do not need to be removed as they can just be bent over and tied down. We also sell wick covers.
As far as collapsible..... many of us know that collapsible = WONKY.
If you're an experienced hooper and want the lightest hoop in the world, get one of our PolyPro firehoops. They weigh in at 14.2 ounces. However, our hoops are completely customizable so if you want heavier, you can have it, if you want it tape, fine..... but my sanded texture is what people like the most about our hoops. Its like no other sanded hoop and it sets them apart from all the rest. check us out at www.hoopdrum.com
love & respect,
S
