I just built my very first fire hoop!! :) I haven't had the chance to try it out on fire yet, but soon I hope.
I wasn't really going off any particular design (I basically put big 8.5" carriage bolts through the tubing and secured them with epoxy, and put wics on the end of those). The epoxy seems to be quite sturdy, my only issue is that because of the thickness of the carriage bolts I chose, the hoop came out SUPER HEAVY. I've nick-named it The Beast.
I'm not quite sure how I'm going to do anything but waist hoop with it... It refuses to even stay up around my knees. Has anyone ever used an incredibly heavy fire hoop (or normal hoop) before? Is it a matter of practice, or is it always just going to be tricky?

Re: Super Heavy Fire Hoop!!
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 3:10 PMMy hoop is really heavy as well. At first I thought I wasn't going to be able to do anything with it, but then I just kept working with and found that it kind of had a different rhythm than my other hoops. I'm still working on the knee hooping, but I think it will just take a little time. It's kind of fun though, just how different it is than any of my other hoops! -

Re: Super Heavy Fire Hoop!!
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 6:09 AMWhen i made my Hoop of Deathness (no wicks just fire all the way around) i knew that i'd be compromising light weight for significant fire.
but you get used to it.
on the plus side to get bruises and built up stronger tissue.
it's better strength training.
and hanna's right, it's just got a different rhythm.
the only down side i see is that when you hit yourself with it it REALLY hurts.
but keep going. -
